Columbus Chapel & Boal Mansion Museum Docent Program - Apply Now for Summer

Who we are:  We are the Boal family and their 1789 home, a community museum since 1952.  We tell the story of our community to visitors from all over the world.  it is the story of eight generations of Boals who helped found Boalsburg, Penn State and much more!  Part of what we show is the Columbus Chapel, the most important Christopher Columbus site in North America, imported form Europe by Boal descendants of Christopher Columbus.

What you can do:  Students apply (below), and join a team of volunteer tour guides (docents) we develop each summer.  Email or telephone now.  You can apply with your friends.  Then bring your Mom and Dad , or come alone for a special orientation tour with refreshments at 10 AM on a to-be-scheduled Friday in April (on Fridays when there is no school).  Or schedule your own visit. Prospective docents also are welcome to apply for the program at any time of year.

  • Learn to show visitors this unique American and international heritage. Guide three half-days a week through the summer (Get subs for vacations). Join in special events like docent parties, concerts (Early May), festivals (Memorial Day) and a grand ball in October. Gain valuable experience in public speaking, history and the fine arts.
  • Enhance your resume for college applications with community service
