The Knights of Columbus and the Columbus Chapel |
|
The Pennsylvania Knights of Columbus sponsored the restoration in April 2006 of the stone path to the Columbus Chapel. The Father O'Hanlon Council of the Knights of Columbus from Our Lady of Victory Church in State College, Pennsylvania in September 2005 had already sponsored the removal of a large elm stump that was intruding on the path.

The Father O'Hanlon council (George Pytel, Grand Knight) has attended the annual Mass in the Columbus Chapel for decades, all the way back to the time of the legendary State College Knight George Smith. This recent contribution is the beginning of a larger, wider effort by the Knights to connect with and support the Columbus Chapel, a Roman Catholic chapel and the strongest connection with Christopher Columbus in all the United States.
Under the leadership of State Deputy Joe Yourish, the Pennsylvania Knights of Columbus are working on plans to involve councils throughout Pennsylvania to help out with the Columbus Chapel. Possible subsequent projects include installing lamp posts along the path to the Chapel and repairing and painting the exterior wood trim of the Chapel.
