Boalsburg Bicentenary Celebration: Schedule of Events
“Celebrating Two Hundred Years of Community”

Boalsburg celebrates its 200th anniversary from October 2008 to May 2009 by pulling together for a fine celebration of our community -- past, present and future -- with many sub-themes:
· October 11, 2008, Kicking off a year-long Boalsburg 200th celebration. Contact Boalsburg Village Conservancy President Chris Lee at chris@boalmuseum.com or (814) 466-9266:
o Noon to 4 pm. Boalsburg 200th Birthday Bicentenary Street Party – “200 years of Village Life”. Music, food, games and a community birthday cake in the square and on the porches of the 200-year-old village. With speaking appearances by historic persons from Boalsburg’s past, including the pioneer David Boal.
o October 11, 2008, 7:30 PM. Boalsburg Bicentenary Ball. “200 Years of Family, Friends and Neighbors Shaping the Future.” Food, dancing and appearances by historic persons from Boalsburg’s past.
· December 2008. Hometown Christmas: Including paper-cutting classes December 6 and horse-drawn wagon rides December 7. Contact Dottie Yukish at dyukish@verizon.net.
· January 28, 2009: Slide lecture: “The Boal Troop Post WWI and the Founding of the 28th Division Shrine. Philip Sauerlender, at the Pennsylvania Military Museum.
· April 18, 2009, 10 am: For the kids! Boalsburg Bicentenary Regatta and Hot Wheel Race: Contact Admiral Gert Aron at gertaron@aol.com or 466-6067.
· Early May 2009: “Music at the Boal Mansion” celebrating 200 years of music.
· May 2009: 200 Years in Nature’s Beauty. Historic outdoor games, environmental clean-up. At Blue Spring Park. Contact Amy Farkas at akfarkas@comcast.net or 466-6228
· May 2009: A Play about Boalsburg by Jerry Sawyer. At the Boal Barn Playhouse.
· Memorial Day Weekend: May 23-25, 2009.
o Saturday, May 23, 5 pm: Boalsburg Fire Co. Parade. Harris Township neighborhoods enter floats on the theme of “200 Years of Neighborhoods.”
o Sunday, May 24: 1–4 pm. Boalsburg Historic Houses Tour: “200 Years of Family Home Life”. 4-6 pm celebration in the square. Contact Katie Ellis at Katie@uoc.com or (814) 466-1110.
o Monday, May 25: “200 Years of History”. Historic Structures Walking Tour brochure and web site (Bob Cameron, rdc170@psu.edu, 876-0129). Bicentenary Pictorial Project (Bill Wallace at wrw5@psu.edu.)
